Post-Concussion Syndrome
Every year, up to three million concussions are caused by falls, sports, motor vehicle accidents, trauma, and recreational activities, (CDC, 2019). 56% of all concussions go unidentified (Powell et al, 2008), and even more go untreated. Though many doctors take a wait-and-see approach to concussion recovery, up to 22% of individuals with concussions have symptoms one year after injury (McMahon, 2014). Furthermore, symptoms can persist for years, and are compounded by additional head injuries. Of patients with 3 or more moderate to severe post-concussive symptoms, only 52% report having seen a healthcare provider in the 3-months after injury, (Seabury et al, 2018).
